Iron oxide, black (INS 172(i)) is a black inorganic pigment (magnetite-type) with stable, light- and heat-resistant colouring, mainly for surface decoration and coatings.

Consumer Advice ​

Black iron oxide is a mineral pigment made from iron oxide, used to color foods black, such as black snacks and confectionery coatings.
