In a nutshell

Isobutane is a propellant for spray and aerosol foods; safe as a gas but highly flammable.

Consumer Advice

Isobutane is an isomer of butane and, like it, is a colorless, odorless gas used as a propellant in aerosol food products such as spray cream and cooking oil sprays. It is petrochemical-derived, contains no animal or plant ingredients, and suits vegan, halal and kosher diets. It only pushes the food out of the can and does not remain in the food, making it safe at approved levels and not an allergen.
