Industrial:由氯化钾溶液电解制得氢氧化钾

Why is it used?

  • Acts as an acidity regulator adjusting pH
  • Used in cocoa and vanilla-bean processing
  • Serves as a processing aid for food treatment
  • Supplies potassium

Common Foods

  • Cocoa and chocolate
  • Vanilla bean products
  • Processing aid (not directly added)
  • Some confectionery
  • Low-sodium food processing

Safety

ADI (Acceptable Daily Intake):Not applicable (evaluated, no limit set)

Concerns:

  • 作为加工助剂需符合残留与纯度要求
  • 强腐蚀性,操作时需防护

Usage Standard

China:GB 2760《食品安全国家标准 食品添加剂使用标准》(加工助剂)

International:

  • EU Regulation 1333/2008 Annex II (E 525)
  • FDA 21 CFR 184.1639 (potassium hydroxide, GRASS)
  • Codex GSFA (INS 525)

In a nutshell

Potassium hydroxide is used chiefly as a processing aid and acidity regulator, similar to sodium hydroxide but supplying potassium.

Consumer Advice

Food-grade potassium hydroxide is used as an acidity regulator and processing aid, similar to sodium hydroxide, in cocoa products, beverages and dairy for pH adjustment. It is neutralised during processing, leaving minimal residue. Potassium is an essential mineral, and use to food-grade standards is safe.
